A R Rahman Asks To Take It Easy On Donald Trump and Demonetization in Unplugged Version Of Urvashi

The Oscar-winner composer made a remastered version of his 1994-hit song Urvashi Urvashi. The song was originally composed for Shankar’s Kadhalan and starred Prabhudeva and Nagma. The new unplugged version carries references to Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Demonetization and some puns in Tamil.

The greatest part is that he crowdsourced some of the lines in this revamped version. On 1 December, in a post on facebook, he had asked his followers to suggest new and contemporary Charanams (verses) for the song, but had asked to avoid any reference to Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump or the currency situation. Now, we know that he, already, had plans to include these.

Last week, he posted:

Urvashi

In this new remastered version of Urvashi Urvashi, he says to ‘Take it easy even if Hillary Clinton lost and Donald Trump becomes president’ and to ‘Take it easy even if your Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes are worthless.’

“Ainooru ruba sellama pona, take it easy policy” (If the Rs. 500 note becomes useless, take it easy policy).

“Donald Trump president aana, take it easy policy” (If Donald Trump becomes president, take it easy policy).

The fans are already going crazy over the song. Singing at the MTV Unplugged studio, accompanying Rahman are Suresh Peters (who sang with him the original version), composer Ranjit Barot and bassist Mohini Dey.
