Mumbai River Anthem – Where Exactly Are The Rivers In The Video?

Well, Digital India never meant that the politicians started lip syncing to tunes in the name of a social cause to appease their teenage dreams. It’s believable that every one of us wanted to be a rockstar when we were young – some even tried their hands at taking guitar classes and a few vocal sessions too, but that didn’t mean that we made a video-song and shared it with the world. Well, some did. But then those some were Dhinchak Pooja, Taher Shah and Mr. Rajkumar and they have their own great fan following. Add another song to the list – The Mumbai River Anthem. Released by T-Series, this was supposed to be an anthem for a social cause, the initiative to save Mumbai’s four dying rivers – Poisar, Dahisar, Oshiwara and Mithi.

But as serious the name sounds, the video of the song digs deep to stoop a new low and well, what started with a river song, falls short of river clips. Adding pointless and redundant gravitas is the presence of State finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, Mumbai civic commissioner Ajoy Mehta and Mumbai police commissioner Datta Padsalgikar. Should we call it a mere political stunt or the launch of Amruta Fadnavis’ singing career and Devendra Fadnavis’ acting career?

And let’s not forget Sonu Nigam, the male voice in the song. I guess, receiving death threats from fundamentalist groups certainly brought him the required attention to hail as the voice of Maharastra’s Chief Minister. Well, even river anthem songs are now being shot at CM’s residence. What’s next?

Twitterati came up with some hilarious response to the video.
