Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – The Force Is Back And It Is Strong As Ever

In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, we see an imperial scientist aka a weapons expert, Galen Erso, sending his daughter into hiding as Orson Krennic forces him to work on the Death Star weapon. Jyn Erso is brought up by Saw Gerrera, the leader of extremists. Freed from captivity by the rebels, Jyn Erso finds about an Empire cargo ship pilot sent by his father with a coded message and a mission. Jyn Erso must lead the charge of a small rebel unit against the evil plans of Orson Krennic, infiltrate an Imperial base to steal plans of the Death Star.

Buzz:

The movie is set before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope. The idea of this story came from visual effects supervisor, John Knoll. Like in the original Star Wars movies, X-wing and Y-Wing fighter aircrafts were made from full-sized cardboard cut-outs. It was also said that some of the original costumes from Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi were used in the movie, keeping its timeline intact.

Apart from the original collection of Star Wars movies, we now also have an animated series [Star Wars Rebels], some comic titles from Marvel, video games [Star Wars: Battlefront] and we also saw the first of the new trilogy as Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Next in line is Rian Johnson’s untitled, Star Wars: Episode VIII, scheduled to be released in December 2017.

What To Anticipate:

The idea of the movie came along as the writers wanted to give the audience a taste of the other unexplored areas and characters of the Star Wars world. With the idea to explore different planets, their people, their heroes, their problems, alliances with the rebels and the empire was the sole purpose of this movie, with many more in the same direction.

Yes, the story is pretty much predictable. But, a whole lot happens under that belt. The movie goes past the world of Lightsabers and Jedis. This is the story of the rebels who made Luke Skywalker’s successful in his war against the empire. These rebels are ready to sacrifice their lives in order for the greater cause, keeping aside their personal vendetta.

Jyn Erso: “Rebellions are built on Hope.”

Cassian Andor: “Make Ten Men feel like A Hundred.”

K-2SO: “Congratulations on Being  Rescued. Please Do not Resist.”

Saw Gerrera: “Save The Rebellion. Save The Dream.”

In terms of acting, more than anyone else, the chatty droid K-2SO in the voice of Alan Tudyk steals the show with its witty humor and sarcastic punch lines. The movie boasts of strong acting performances by Mads Mikkelsen, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Wen Jiang, Forest Whitaker and Riz Ahmed. Ben Mendelsohn is superb as the villain.

Apart from all the good things, the story of the movie does seem a bit hurried. The characters in the movie are not given the proper screen time to develop their position. Also, Felicity Jones falls short of expression in the movie carrying the same stare and the big eyed-buck toothed hopeful look from Inferno. But, the good part is, the story is the main hero of the movie.

Darth Vader, in his menacing voice, with his Lightsaber is a real treat to watch.

For all the old fans, we do have old characters making an appearance, even the two famous droids from the original series.

It’s just the beginning of a new series and we hope for greater things to follow soon.
