Befikre is the Mother of All Clichés

Befikre Movie Story

Befikre begins in the present where we see Dharam and Shyra breaking up. Dharam is a Delhi boy from Karolbagh who was invited by his friend to Paris to do stand-up comedy in his club. Shyra is a tourist guide in Paris. The movie goes back and forth into past and present and tells the cute-meet story of a boy and girl who promise never to fall in love. After breaking up, they try to remain friends and it’s only when a third character comes in between that Dharam realizes his love for Shyra and even Shyra realizes the same and then starts the whole breaking up of the wedding and running away.. two rebels daring each other to do crazy stuff.

Apparently, Deepika Padukone was the first choice for the movie, but later, the movie went to Vaani Kapoor. Aditya Chopra’s last directed movie was Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The movie was extensively shot in Paris and was filmed over a period of 50 days. The movie also became Ranveer Singh’s 5th highest opening weekend grosser and became 10th highest opening weekend grosser of 2016. The movie had a long list of promotions ..including Vaani Kapoor doing 5 Youtube episodes as “Shyra from Paris” talking about Indian tourists in Paris, the French language etc.

Befirke Movie Review

Making a lot of noise through their advertisements and campaigns, Befikre time and again stresses on the fact of being carefree, being open to things, being cool. Well, the whole point of the movie is..

No roles..No Limits..No Fear..Be Carefree..Be Befikre

Well.. just to be clear doing stupid pranks, giving each other some pretty bad dares and then making out everywhere doesn’t account for being carefree and being Befikre. Apparently for the director and the story writer that is the central axis on which the whole movie has been based. Well, besides that, there is nothing new in the story that you haven’t see in earlier films. So much so, that you will feel Befikre to be a MASHUP of Neal n Nikki, DDLJ, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and the subplots that almost every love-story movie carries.

Not just that, even the dance moves will remind of similar moves from Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.

There are particular scenes which have no meaning whatsoever in the story and may have been kept just to make some time. There is a scene, where Dharam and Shyra do a sexy jazz dance together, on the night when both of them are going to be married to two different persons and the stupidest part is everyone cheers for them. The scene where Ranveer Singh shows his naked butt is seriously the heights of stupidity.

Some may consider Ranveer to be a goofy, funny character at its best, but then some would also consider him to be a human sleazeball, tharki as hell. And then there is Vaani Kapoor who has done some good acting, considering this to be her second movie. But, at the same time, her dialogues often remain unclear and well, her dressing sense in some of the scenes can be seriously questioned.

You wish the writers could have portrayed both the characters well and written something original.

What’s worth watching in the movie is the flawless acting of Akarsh Khurana and Ayesha Raza Mishra as Shyra’s dad and mum.

Vishal-Shekhar’s music for the movie and the songs sung by Papon, Benny Dayal are groovy and funky.

The only thing that you will take home after the movie is your desire to visit Paris and also the desire to play a game of dares.
