Trailer Review: The Ghazi Attack Movie Convincingly Unearths The 1971-Conspiracy Tale

Directed by debutant, Sankalp Reddy, The Ghazi Attack is partially based on his book, The Blue Fish. The movie stars Rana Daggubati, Taapsee Pannu, Kay Kay Menon, Satyadev Kancharana, Atul Kulkarni, Priyadarshi Pulikonda, Rahul Singh and Akshay Mittal.

Said to be India’s first movie depicting Naval warfare or India’s first underwater film, the movie revolves around the story of Sinking of Pakistani Naval Submarine (PNS) Ghazi in 1971 off the Vishakapatnam harbor. The submarine PNS Ghazi was on a mission to lay down mines near the Vishakapatnam harbor and also assault and destroy/damage Indian warship, INS Vikrant. The movie depicts the tale of events around the officers and crew of Indian submarine, S21, responsible for sinking the Pakistani submarine.

Several movies regarding the Indian Air force and the Indian Army have been made, but this would be the first of its kind showing naval warfare. Apart from that, there have been claims that the incident was kept as classified under secret files and the movie shows light on the sinking of the Pakistani submarine based on true events.

This certainly has raised the expectations and the curiosity surrounding the movie.

“It’s one of those conspiracy tales that wasn’t told and when we heard it, we thought it was a very important story to tell.”

From the looks of the trailer, the movie does look very promising. The VFX effects look very real and authentic as, Rana Daggubati himself looked after the special effects sequences. The underwater setting looks pretty well shot and the whole idea of the movie being shot in a submarine is mind-blowing. In an interview, Rana said, “We built two large submarines in Hyderabad and shot in two languages, Hindi and Telugu.”

Rana Daggubati, Kay Kay Menon and Atul Kulkarni play the role of Officers of the Indian submarine while Tapsee Pannu plays the role of a Bangladeshi refugee. The acting seems intense and powerful and be it Rana, Kay Kay or Atul, they all don the role of Indian Naval officers with a certain credibility.

Amitabh Bachchan has lent his voice as the narrator of the movie and that makes the trailer even more gripping. The movie also marks Om Puri’s last film in the Indian Cinema.

The trailer does pique a lot of interest and it is one story that people would definitely want to know.

The movie is readied in four languages – Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malyalam and it is set to hit the theatres on 17 February.
